Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, quiet town. The West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island located west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel was a woman of a certain age living in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to become an actress, but after a sudden expansion, she and her partner weren't able to dance along with her. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who turned to acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her into the right direction. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in the school's production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
